The incorporation of linolenic and linoleic acids into the plasma lipids of sheep given intra-abomasal infusions of linseed oil, maize oil or linoleic acid.

چکیده
I . The fatty acid compositions of the plasma cholesteryl esters, phospholipids, triglycerides and unesterified fatty acids were determined in three sheep at various times after they had been given intra-abomasal infusions of emulsions of linseed oil, maize oil or linoleic acid. 2. The concentrations of linolenic acid or linoleic acid in the plasma triglycerides began to increase 1.5 h after infusion of the emulsions had begun. As the concentration of linolenic or linoleic acids in the plasma triglycerides increased, the concentrations of palmitic and stearic acids decreased, hut there were no appreciable changes in the concentrations of oleic acid. 3. The concentrations of linolenic or linoleic acid in the plasma phospholipids and cholesteryl esters did not begin to increase until 8-9 h and 24-25 h respectively after the infusions of the emulsions had begun. 4. It is suggested that, after absorption from the small intestine of the sheep, linolenic and linoleic acids are transported in triglyceride form to the liver where the triglycerides are partially or completely hydrolysed. These CI8 polyunsaturated acids are then preferentially utilized for the synthesis of phospholipids and cholesteryl esters but not for the re-synthesis of triglycerides.

متن کاملLipase Catalyzed Incorporation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid by Transesterification into Sunflower Oil Applying Immobilized Lipase (Lipozyme Thermomyces lanuginosus and Rhizomucor mehei)
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), Glycerol (G) and sunflower oil blends with varying concentration were subjected to enzymatic esterification using a 1, 3- specific immobilized lipase. CLA was used as acyl due to its purported health benefits. The transesterified lipids were evaluated for free fatty acids (FFA) and composition of fatty acids by gas chromatography. Lipozyme RM IM is preferred for ...
متن کاملFactors affecting the polyunsaturated fatty acid content of the plasma lipids of sheep.
I. In Expt I , four adult wether sheep were given diets of hay or dried grass in an alternating sequence of feeding treatments. Each treatment period lasted for 20 days and blood samples were taken from the sheep on the last day of each period. When the diet of hay (linoleic: linolenic acid ratio 1.40) was replaced by one of dried grass (1inoleic:linoltnic acid ratio 0.28), there was an increas...
متن کاملDietary linseed oil with or without malate increases conjugated linoleic acid and oleic acid in milk fat and lipoprotein lipase and stearoyl-coenzyme A desaturase gene expression in mammary gland and milk somatic cells of lactating goats
Supplementary dietary plant oils have the potential to alter milk fatty acid composition in ruminants as a result of changes in the amount and kind of fatty acid precursors. We hypothesized that linseed oil in combination with malate (a key propionate precursor in the rumen) would increase ∆9 unsaturated fatty acids and specific gene expression in somatic cells and mammary glands of lactating g...
متن کاملThe vitamin E nutritional status of rats fed on diets high in fish oil, linseed oil or sunflower seed oil.
Twelve groups of eight rats and two control groups of sixteen rats were given semisynthetic diets with 40% energy as fat for a period of 76 d. All diets contained a minimum of 3% energy as linoleic acid and comparable basal levels of D-alpha- and D-gamma-tocopherol. The diets varied in fat composition and in the content of DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate. The diets high in polyunsaturated fatty aci...
